Richmond Rabbits News

Rabbits looking good

24th of March 2012. That date has significance for two reasons, the first being the first ever game involving the Richmond Rabbits, the second being the date of the first game on the road to 50 for hooker Sunny Morgan. He scored a try that day, but failed to cross the line in his 50th game for the club yesterday against the Taniwha, but was honoured with a 50th game blazer, and the the honour of leading the red & green machine out onto Ngawhatu.

With two games remaining before semi final football, the Rabbits lined up against a 12 man Taniwha side with momentum and points the primary focus.

When prop's Ioane Tuilagi & Shann Telfar crossed inside the opening 10 minutes, all seemed to be going to plan, but as has become customary, the Taniwha kicked into gear in the second 10 minutes, at one stage leading 14-12, before 3 tries at the back-end of the first half to Grahme Smith, Jamaine Bristowe & Ben Tunnicliff put a temporary smile on the coaches face, with the half time score sitting at 30-14.

The second half start replicated that of the first, with Bristowe adding 2 more early tries to his eventual tally of 4, and hardworking halfback Craig Shepard adding one of his own. The Taniwha weren't finished, adding 2 more second half tries to their effort, scoring 26 points certainly a concern for the finals bound Rabbits. Late second half tries to Sam Hedges, Bristowe & Shepard put the icing on the cake in a win dedicated to the club stalwart Morgan, who in himself had a solid game in the middle of the park.

The Stables Richmond Rabbits 64 (Bristowe 4, Shepard 2, Hedges, Tunnicliff, Telfar, Tuilagi, G Smith tries, H Smith 9con, Morgan 1con) Taniwha 26
